Description

Man, these are HARD to put in cathegories. I don't know if Nraa are scientific enough to be sci-fi, but there's no magick to mark them specially as fantasy either. Hard.

Anyway, this was our last big critique assignment at school. The mission was to make a piece of art that used some kind of features of comics. In other words, telling a story.

Here a female Nraa is telling her chicks a story about how spirits created the first Nraa by carving its bones from hollow plant.
The bones of Nraa are hollow, like birds', and are used also as part of their breathing system alongside with lungs. They believe that the spirits made their bones from hollow plants, and when they wanted to make mammals, all plant material was already used up and the spirits made their bones from clay instead. Because of this Nraa call mammals "clay bones".

Drawn on A3 size brown cardboard, which I still owe to ~Haikaras.

Just to start... this. is. beautiful.

I absolutely love this piece. As soon as I saw it I fell in love. The brown and gold tone of the paper works in beautiful comparison with the flames and the smoke; the blues of the creator in it contrast gorgeously as well. I can imagine this scene perfectly in my mind. A little cave hideaway deep in unexplored mountains, the fire crackling and the smoke whirling up into the sky as the mother paints the picture to the young minds that could be inspired, never mind that they aren't human. I just... love it.

The soft fluff on the babies, and those feathery fluffy things on the mother are gorgeous too. The whole style of this is amazing, the composition. I love the absolute simplicity of it, with the floors, and the almost cave-drawing-style images of their 'creator', it just works so... spectacularly. The way the images come from the smoke, swirling into it's tail, are also brilliant. Cleverly done and gorgeous. I love this. Love love love! I can't find any faults with it at all. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart -"/>
