Hey, does anyone of you know good tutorials for modelling and texturing in Blender? Preferably simple (or at least easy to understand) and with as recent version as possible (Blender 2.6 is the one at our school I think, I just downloaded 2.63a). Any help? We have a homework assignment of making something with a help of a tutorial, and I'd like to try my hand at some creature modelling.

Here's a free online course that covers many basics of Blender, including some basic animation. Unfortunately it is not complete (the more advanced curriculum is unavailable) and it was done using an older version of Blender. So in order to use this, you'd have to acquire an older version of Blender before version 2.5.

However if you were to get an old Blender and use this course to learn how to model, it might not be too hard to translate that into versions 2.5 and above.

Edit: It seems that the guy did create a new online course regarding Blender that uses the 2.5 and above engine, if I read it right. Here it is: [link]

WHat =lostSHADE16 said, CGCookie, Blenderguru, the folks at Blenderartists.org will often help (i'm there as well), I would also look on youtube as there are hundreds of great tutorials.
I made a tutorial for a new tool that was developed called the skin modifier, you can model base meshes very quickly with it, it's not perfect but it is fast and gets the job done, I love using it for making 3d "sketches" and seeing how my concepts would work in 3d.

Here is a good site for any blender tutorial. There is a good community here, and the tutorials are really well done.

I just discovered blenderguru.com, which is full of various tutorial videos. I didn't see everything and not everything is easy (difficulty levels are displayed), but it still may help you for some cases. :)

I might hang around and look for tutorials too. I have a student version of Maya, which will last about three years and other industry programs, but I wish to give some of the other programs a shot.

I haven't looked much since the big upgrade, but at that time there were almost no resources for new people, just some for people who knew the old layout and it was showing them where everything was.

I really don't like Blender. I do understand why people are willing to put up with the high licence fees and prices for Maya and 3DSMax.
